Empowering shoulders, restoring strength.

At MERRILLVILLE ORTHOPEDICS AND SPINE INSTITUTE LLC, our Shoulder Service is dedicated to diagnosing and treating a range of shoulder conditions, from injuries to degenerative issues. Our expert team employs cutting-edge techniques to restore shoulder function and alleviate discomfort, ensuring you regain strength and flexibility.

Our procedure includes:

Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair

Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair surgery is a minimally invasive procedure that typically requires small incisions in the shoulder to access the area of injury. A camera and special instruments are used to evaluate the shoulder joint and then repair any damage with sutures, anchors, or both. The surgery can last anywhere from one to three hours depending on the severity of the injury. Recovery time generally takes between four and six months, depending on individual healing factors, with physical therapy playing an important role in restoring range of motion and strength. During recovery, it’s important to follow your doctor’s instructions carefully and attend recommended physical therapy sessions. With proper care, many patients experience a full restoration of strength and mobility.

Arthroscopic Labrum Repair

Arthroscopic labrum repair surgery is a procedure used to repair or reconstruct the cartilage that lines and cushions the shoulder joint. During the procedure, small incisions will be made in the shoulder region so that a tiny camera can be inserted. This camera provides the surgeon with an inside view of the joint through which they can repair any damaged cartilage with specialized surgical instruments. Recovery time from arthroscopic labrum repair surgery is typically 2-6 months, depending on the extent of damage to the joint and success in healing.

Total Shoulder Replacement

Total shoulder replacement surgery is a procedure intended to restore joint movement, reduce pain, and increase range of motion. The main components of the procedure involve removing any damaged or diseased tissue and replacing it with a prosthetic implant composed of metal and plastic components. During the surgery, any bone deformities that contribute to the patient’s pain are also corrected. After the surgery, physical therapy may be recommended to help restore and improve range of motion and strength. The typical recovery time for a total shoulder replacement is between three and six months, depending on the patient’s progress in rehabilitation.
